Mercedes-AMG SLC 43: All Grown Up But Still A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing

Mercedes-AMG is the high-performance arm of Mercedes-Benz. One of the models they sell that is still the talk of the town is the SLC 43. It’s a convertible that looks like an “ordinary” MB SLC-Class model. But, what lurks underneath is a whole different story!

The thing is, Merc enthusiasts were a little unhappy that the latest model hasn’t got a V8 anymore. Still, what has replaced the engine isn’t exactly slow! Here’s why the Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 (what a mouthful to pronounce!) is still a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

The new engine is just as capable as the outgoing model’s unit

AMG fans will remember that the previous generation had a 5.5 V8 lump at the business end of things. The SLC 43 has something a little different. And while it might be bad news for V8 fans, it’s good for those that seek eco-friendly power.

Let’s face it; car manufacturers are getting forced into building greener engines. As a result, even high-performance sports cars can’t avoid such changes. Still, that doesn’t mean performance has to get replaced by lower emissions. Why not have the best of both worlds?

That’s just what Mercedes-AMG have done with the new engine. It’s a 3.0 V6 unit that boasts twin turbochargers. Coming out the factory with 367 bhp, the car will do 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. Yes, it’s a little slower than the outgoing V8. But, the fact that CO2 emissions are lower will ease the pain somewhat. Especially when you find your car tax bill is much lower!

The engine Mercedes-AMG fitted is as efficient as you might expect. There’s no turbo lag thanks to the use of two chargers (one for each segment of rev range). Plus, there is plenty of power on tap at all times.

If you love the sound of the V8 burble, this might not be the car for you. But, there’s a nice distinctive V6 turbo sound that I think you will love!

Affordable performance and style

You might think that the new Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 will cost an arm and a leg to buy. Well, it’s not a bargain basement car, that’s for sure. But, it’s not going to set you back a small fortune either. It’s also cheaper than many of its likely competitors on the market. And, in my opinion, more fun to drive.

Most buyers of the SLC 43 will opt for one of the Mercedes finance packages on offer. Let’s face it; few people buy a brand new car outright these days. Instead, they lease them for a few years and get another new car when the lease expires!

Ride and comfort quality is even better than the old SLK

When you buy a car like the SLC 43, you expect it to excel in all areas. I’m pleased to report that is most definitely true with this car! Having driven the previous model, I can tell you the ride and comfort levels on this new one are better.

For a start, you can alter the firmness of the suspension in the cabin. And wind noise isn’t a problem when you’ve got the roof down.
