Safely Packing for a Long Road Trip

Long road trips are fantastic. They can be a great way to save money on your vacations, but they are also a way to make the journey part of the fun. A road trip isn’t just a way to get from A to B, like a flight would be. It’s a way to spend quality time with your friends or family, away from the distractions of everyday life. Many people find a long drive relaxing and enjoyable, and a long road trip can be more fun than you might expect.

But, packing can be tricky, especially if you are traveling with children, or otherwise need a lot of luggage. Failing to pack well can mean that you struggle to get everything into the car, or that you can’t find the things that you need when you need them. It can also become unsafe, so let’s take a look at some ways to ensure your car is safely packed for a long road trip.

Add Some Extra Space to Your Vehicle

A road trip is possible even if you’ve got a relatively small car. You could add storage from Roof Rack And Towbar World, or add a roof box to your vehicle. Or, you could hire a larger vehicle for your big trip. Another option is adding storage options to your cabin space and even a trailer. This can give you a way to keep your cabin comfortable and free from clutter and ensure that you can still see your mirrors and blind spots. Just make sure they are correctly secured before you set off.

Keep What You Need in the Cabin

You might need supplies like snacks, drinks, extra layers, and blankets for a long road trip, and the last thing you want is to have to pull out all of your luggage to find what you need on the road. Pack a bag with everything you want for the journey and stow it in an easy to reach place in the cabin of your car.

Pack Heavy Items First

Heavy, bulky, and large items should be packed at the bottom of your truck, trailer, or roof box. Put the bigger, heavy things in first, then add smaller, lighter, or easy to shape items on top and around the sides.

Play Some Tetris

Things don’t always fit comfortably, even with extra storage. When this happens, you might need to bring those old Tetris skills out. Spend time finding ways that everything will fit comfortably.

Strap Things Down

Even if your trunk is packed tight, it can be worth strapping things down to stop movement, keeping your car stable on the road and your possessions safe.

Keep First Night Clothes on Top

No one ever wants to unpack everything as soon as they arrive. Keep a small first night bag on top, and you won’t have to.

Don’t Forget Safety Essentials
When we’re packing for a long trip, we usually remove any unnecessary items we’ve been driving around with to create more space. But, don’t make the mistake of removing things that could keep you safe, like your spare tire, puncture kit, basic tools, and your car manual and a map book. You might want to add some other car safety essentials and a small first aid kit.
