The STX Files: Ford Announces New Trim for Super Duty, Revives It for F-150

2017 Super Duty STX

For truck buyers who find Ford’s work-oriented XL trim level a bit spartan but don’t feel like spending the bucks to belly up to the XLT-level bar, Ford offers the STX. This trim level had been absent from the F-150 since the pickup’s aluminum rebody, and it was previously unavailable on Ford’s Super Duty pickups. Those of you who’d been letting their jubilee horns languish in their cases had best shine ’em up: The STX has returned for 2017, and this time it’s available on the extra-boeuf machines, as well.

On the F-150, checking the STX box nets you 20-inch aluminum wheels with dark-gray-painted pockets, a black grille with a body-color surround and a black mesh insert, body-color fascia and bumpers, Sync 3 with an 8.0-inch touchscreen featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, privacy glass, black cloth seats, an STX Sport box decal, fog lamps, and manual lumbar support for both the driver’s and passenger seat. SuperCab and SuperCrew models are eligible for the STX treatment, and the trim level gives you the choice of a 5.0-liter V-8, a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6, or a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6.

For Super Duty, er, duty, the STX package adds a chrome grille, chrome front and rear step bumpers, an STX fender-vent badge, STX-specific aluminum wheels, steering-wheel-mounted cruise control, and an AM/FM stereo with a single-disc CD/MP3 player. Any cab combo is eligible, and you’ve got your choice of a 6.2-liter gasoline V-8 or a 6.7-liter diesel V-8.

Your local Ford store is taking orders now. Walk in with that jubilee horn, lay down some funky Dixieland, and tell the dealer you’d like to take an STX by the hand. You don’t have to buy one. Just do that and send us a letter outlining the result. Bonus points if you call a male salesperson “pretty mama.”
