Crash Avoidance With Five Technologies
One of the biggest evolutions in recent years has been technology. Whether in business or at home, technology has expanded our horizons, so it’s no secret that technology would be beneficial when it comes to us being on the road. New safety technology in cars and on the road is saving lives, but there are so many different gadgets and technologies that as yet, are not the standard for all vehicles.
We do have seatbelts and airbags and have done for some time now. When an accident occurs, we endeavour to find legal advice and the question of seatbelt use and airbags always omes up in those cases. However, front crash protection is probably far more important than the use of a belt or bag in a crash. There has always been a focus on protecting people when they are involved in a vehicular crash, but lately, the technology developments have shifted that focus from protecting the people to preventing the crash happening in the first place. It’s a huge step in safety technology, though, because the developments with airbags, seatbelts, assisted parking and safety locks was always the main priority. Below, you’ll find five examples of technologies that are becoming more popular to prevent an accident in the first place.
ESC – Electronic Stability Control
This does an amazing job of preventing a car from sliding out of control on the road. There is a huge reduction in the likelihood that someone will be hurt or even killed in a crash where a vehicle is rolling freely down a road. This, alongside anti-lock brakes, have reduced the number of crashes that happen daily.
AEB – Automatic Emergency Braking
The most common collision type on the road is a rear-end collision. People brake too hard, and those driving behind them run straight into their trunk. There have been cases where automatic emergency braking has failed to prevent a collision altogether, but it has still greatly reduced the severity of the accident that occurs.
Lane Departure
This is something that can set off a beep in your car if you are drifting out of your lane. This does vary from car to car and it’s ideal that you don’t just turn them off because of the beeping noise that it does. It’s a standard feature on almost all vehicles now, so you shouldn’t miss out on it when you buy your new vehicle.
Blind Spot Warnings
Blind spot detection will always be a good idea if you find yourself struggling to change lanes without a near-miss. Radar is used to see the vehicles that your eyes might not, and your system will let you know if there is someone creeping alongside where you can’t see them.
Front Traffic Alert
This works for the rea of the car as well, but it’s something that will let you know if there is another car coming from the side of you. These are generally a feature that most cars have now and it’s a good thing to have so that you can’t find yourself crashing into others.
