Top 4 Summer Car Expenses That Break The Bank

Summer is the favourite season for road trips and spontaneous exploratory journeys. When the sun is out and the day is long, the road becomes an adventure for young drivers. Indeed, most drivers under the age of 23 are likely to be university students, which means that they’re going to have loads of free time before classes start again. While some students might choose to take on a summer job, for most of them, each day is a new adventure that could take them anywhere. Unfortunately, young drivers are prone to encounter substantial repair costs over the summer. Indeed, road trips can be challenging for someone who only drives the short distance between home and college.

Don’t ignore the engine warning light

#1. Car accidents are more likely to happen during the holiday

There’s a reason why car accidents tend to occur during holiday seasons; it’s because people are prone to travel long distances over the holiday – the same principle applies to Christmas holidays. The mixture of fatigue at the steering wheels and drowsiness from the heat in the vehicle often leads to dramatic car crash scenes. Summer especially appeals to speed drivers who believe that the weather conditions make the roads safer. Sunny days, no ice or fog, and clear nights; many drivers find themselves driving too fast with the intimate conviction that, because the weather is clear, there is no danger.

#2. You assume the engine should be hot

According to a recent survey, drivers tend to ignore the warning lights on their dashboard for a variety of reasons. Some drivers lack time to check in the handbook what the light means. Others assume that things will sort themselves out over time. Over a third of drivers ignore the engine light in summer, with some of them thinking that it is directly linked to the warm weather. In reality,  the warnings are designed to inform the driver about an engine fault, which could be anything from a loose wire to a faulty catalytic convertor. Drivers endanger themselves and other motorists when they fail to address the fault.

#3. You don’t see what’s on the road

Keeping your eyes on the road in summer can be tricky, especially when you’re driving towards the sunlight. Even with sunglasses, the light could be blinding. Drivers are more likely to damage their tyres in summer over glass shards or potholes they couldn’t see. It’s crucial to drive carefully to avoid further damages on uneven road surfaces. Taking a pothole at high speed could not only tear your tyre but also affect the suspension and shock absorbers.

#4.The food you forgot in the car

There is no road trip without drive-through meals. But there’s no food on the go without a big mess! And if there’s one thing that can ruin your trip is food spilt inside your car. Try removing melted chocolate from the crevices between the leather seats – leaving it inside will only attract pests. Greasy and gravy food is going to leave a coat of fat everywhere, without mentioning the stains.

Summer is the perfect season to take the car and explore the country. However, it’s also a dangerous time for young and less experienced drivers whose attention span might be limited on long distances. From a quick pick-me-up burger that leaves nasty stains on the seat to dramatic speed crashes, your car expenses are likely to go up if you’re not careful.
