Red Lining Your Summer Road Trip

You can already see the open road. The wind offers cool relief as the sun gazes through the car windscreen. You’ve got nothing but time on your hands, and miles of land to cross. Unfortunately, your car is parked firmly in the driveway with the engine off, but a summer road trip isn’t far away.

Quarantine life has created a yearning within many to hit the road once this is all over. Being confined to your homes and neighborhoods for so long is motivation enough to plan the road trip of a lifetime this summer (or whenever it may be).

There’s a certain romance about a road trip, no matter where you go or what you do. However, if you’re looking to redline your trip and add some spice to your travel plans, here are some great activities to partake in along the way.

Quad Biking

There are so many quad biking options out there. For the adrenaline junkies, there’s quad racing through forests or mud trails. These races are thrilling but may require previous experience.

For those who are after a more all-round adventure, look into quad biking near mountains, nature trails, or coastlines. There are quad tours available that take you on trails with breathtaking scenery.

Dirt Biking

Like quad biking, dirt biking comes in many forms. If you’re someone who doesn’t take road trips without their dirt bike mounted on the back of their pick-up, choose your dream dirt trail and hit the road.

For those with less experience, many dirt bike tour companies will provide a full riding experience. You will take a tour of an area, fully kitted out in riding gear, learn to ride, and have tonnes of fun. Again, pick the location you’ve been dreaming about and get planning.

Go Off-Road

This is an enjoyable way to experience different aspects of the landscape. Most road trips consist of hundreds of highway miles, so why not go off-road? There are hidden gems out there that can only be accessed off the beaten track.

If your vehicle is suitable for off-roading, then check out this beginner’s guide.

If your vehicle doesn’t have 4 x 4, or off-roading seems a little extreme for you, there are some cool alternatives. Fat Tire Electric scooters are great options for short journeys on your road trip. Some are built for urban life, but others are adopted for off-road and rugged terrain, making for a fun road trip activity.

Hit the beach

If you’re looking to redline it, take a stab at surfing. Surfboards are cheap to rent, and there are usually surf schools close to beaches to help get you started.

Again, ATVs and dirt bikes are fun to ride in the sand. However, something to get the heart racing is dune buggy riding. Traversing dunes in a buggy at high speed is a fantastic experience. Caution is advised for this high octane activity.

What’s not to love about dune buggies?

If you’ve had your fill of action for a few days, you can use a beach day to relax and recuperate. After all, it’s your road trip, and you can enjoy it however you like.
